Here's the best part, sometimes the trivia questions will involve real life prizes such as this week. A winner will be chosen from the correct answers posted. That person will win a Titanium Artisan Proponent Knife, courtesy of Atlantic Knife and Artisan Cutlery. The winner will be announced in approx. 2 weeks.
Good Luck Fellow AK'ers!
Hey Jul, so somehow they figured out that by adding the ashes of bone to the iron it strengthened their blades. Crazy I know!
Burned bone down to a charcoal state, iron then heated in the burning coal absorbed carbon from the coals burn off, giving a unintentional/accidental form of carbon steel.
Bone was added to strengthen the iron
To strengthen their swords, smiths used the bones of their dead ancestors and animals, hoping to transfer the spirit into their blades.
According to Lotte Hedeager, the Vikings added bone ash to carburize the iron and make it stronger.
