Kershaw Tinder Axe 1071BW review 7/22/2015

First, let me say I'm a fan of Kershaw and per my experience this camp axe lives up to the craftsmanship we all have come to expect from Kershaw.  Second of all, it’s a handy axe in an easy-to-pack size. The sharp edge will make quick work of branches to create a supply of tinder perfect for getting the campfire roaring.

While it is a axe at heart, the Kershaw Tinder has some other talents. The back of the tool is a hammer, perfect for pounding in tent stakes. There’s a built-in pry point, a nail remover, a bottle opener, and a set of four hex tools.  The Tender is full tang giving it strength and durability.  The axe weighs just about 15 ounces and is 10 inches long.  It is the perfect size for a camping bag or a backpack.  The handle can be cord wrapped to give it a little more thickness.  The Blackwash finish gives the Tender a sleek look.

The Tinder feels as solid as larger camp axes I've used. The hex fittings work well and fit snuggly on their appropriate size nuts. But it can only be used where the nut heads are exposed so that the axe head can fit.

The hammer end is narrow, more so than I was expecting. But it fundamentally works well. . The bottle opener is a plus.

Overall this is a excellent axe.  It's size and sturdy construction makes it an excellent addition to my camping backpack. The slight curve of the handle and keen edge makes quick work of smallbranches. The pry bar is a great addition to the Tender. It makes quick work of camp stakes.

On a scale of 1 to 5, the Kershaw Tinder would receive a 4.5 and would be a worthy addition to any camping trip.
