Review of the Shieldon Stinger: A Sharp New Entry in EDC Knives
Hello everyone, and welcome back to another exciting review! Today, we're diving into the details of the Shieldon Stinger, a new knife that’s quickly gaining attention for its performance, design, and overall value. If you’re an EDC enthusiast or just someone who loves well-built knives, stick around to see why the Stinger might be your next go-to blade.
Unboxing the Shieldon Stinger
When you receive the Shieldon Stinger, the first impression is its packaging. The box is sleek, with a clean, modern design that stands out. It features bold lettering and a simple logo, emphasizing Shieldon’s commitment to quality. The front of the box proudly displays the knife's name, while the back gives you a hint of what’s inside with a few details about the Stinger's specifications. Inside the box, you’ll find the knife securely nestled with some added bonuses: a soft cleaning cloth for upkeep, as well as some cool Shieldon stickers to personalize your gear.
Design and Build Quality
The Shieldon Stinger is a fantastic blend of form and function. With a handle made from a combination of Micarta and G10, available in a sleek grey and green colorway, it’s not only visually striking but also built for durability. The texture of the materials ensures a secure, comfortable grip, perfect for those long carry days or for precise tasks.
However, while the handle provides excellent traction, it's worth noting that there is no lanyard hole on this model, which might be a downside for some who prefer carrying their knives with a lanyard. But for those who favor a minimalist approach, this won't be an issue.
Blade Performance
The blade of the Stinger is a real standout. Constructed from 14C28N steel, it strikes a perfect balance between edge retention and corrosion resistance. It’s a steel that has proven its worth in EDC knives, making the Stinger ready for whatever tasks you throw at it.
The blade style is a classic drop point, which is versatile and works well for most cutting tasks. The stonewashed finish on the blade not only looks great but also helps hide scratches, keeping the blade looking clean even with heavy use. With a flat grind, the blade maintains sharpness throughout, making it easy to cut through various materials without much effort.
Jimping on the spine provides a secure grip during use, and thumb studs make the opening smooth and easy, allowing for one-handed deployment. The liner lock mechanism is solid, ensuring safety while you’re working with the knife. The 2.95-inch blade is the perfect size for everyday carry, with an overall knife length of 7.32 inches when fully opened.
Carrying the Shieldon Stinger
One of the highlights of the Stinger is its convenient pocket clip, which is reversible, making it ambidextrous for left- or right-handed carry. Whether you're a lefty or a righty, you can adjust the clip to fit your preference, making this knife versatile for any user. It’s designed to fit comfortably in your pocket, ensuring easy access when you need it most.
Final Thoughts
The Shieldon Stinger is a solid choice for anyone looking for an everyday carry knife. With high-quality materials like 14C28N steel and a micarta & G10 handle, it offers both performance and style in a compact form. The blade's design and finish make it an excellent tool for daily tasks, while the ergonomic design ensures comfort throughout its use.
At this time, there’s only one variant available (the grey and green micarta & G10 combo), but given the quality, I’d expect more to follow in the future. The Stinger is set to be available on our website at the time of this review’s release, and it’s definitely a knife worth checking out.
