The looks of the Kershaw Speed Bump are at first glance impressive.  The blade styling is unique but not over the top.  The blade finish is smooth and attractive.  The textured G10 handle is comfortable and astetically pleasing.  My first impression of the appearance of the knife is solid.

As with most Kershaw Speed Safe Models the open smoothly and forcefully with just the right amount of applied pressure.  The Speed Bump is no exception.  The blade exits the liner with authority and locks into place.

The tip of the blade seems strong.  It also has a well defined "Speed Bump" towards the middle of the blade . This re-curved portion gives the Speed Bump style and providesa nice cutting performance.  The Speed Bump has good cutting leverage from the well balanced knife.

The knife is well balanced and in my bias opinion is just the right size.  My favorite folders are 8.5" to 9.25" blades.  The handle is very comfortable as are most Kershaw G10 handles.  The handle will provide good grip in humid or wet conditions.  The slight Curve of the handle gives the Speed bump a stylish look.

Now, to the reason we reviewed this blade.  The thumb stud lock is interesting at first glance.  If you are like me and you are partial to linerlock blades then you will have to give it a few practice tries before you become comfortable using the lock.  I found that the thumbside lock was ineffective.

But using the lock on the rear side of the blade with my forefinger it was releatively easy to use.  After several practice runs it actually became easy to use and closed smoothly.

The pocket clip has a nice ergonomics and slides in and out of the pocket fairly easily. The jibbing on the top of the blade gives the Speed bump a little extra flair.

Overall, I was impressed by the Kershaw Speed Bump.  The knife is designed well and provides excellent cutting ability.  For under $30 this blade is a nice value.  The Kershaw Speed Bump would be an exellent addition to anyones EDC lineup at its current price point.
